Twin brothers collapsed by furious flames
Smoldering, twisted- murderously insane
Dreams pulverized, twisted in Allah’s name
Unholy jihad hides Lucifer’s aims
So plain the pain of those in planes
Used in vain like slavery’s chains and death trains
To appease through deeds the needs of madmen
To force the march towards Armageddon
So many lost, star-crossed with no trace
But the mud of dust and tears on a long face
Who’s picked his fingers raw through debris and death
And like those still left waiting, hope’s already left
But yet while bereft, no stone’s left unturned
No lungs unpolluted, no boots left unburned
They say the world turns due to gravity’s force-
I know now it spins honoring those we have lost…
Never look at a plane the same again.
Once used to travel in peace.
Peace’s belief out of reach now.
To each a moment of silence …
Peace.
Life’s fragile nature instantly divided by actions, lasting now and forever, it hurts.
It hurts unable to find, unable to climb rubble with fists full of nothing but silence.
Our horizon was littered with dust, smoke, and violence.
News looped to a background tune of silence.
Total defiance of all that’s real, even what we feel has changed.
Even stranger is life seems stained and all the rules that applied before don’t remain.
Millions had to sit and explain, or stand in the rain at the pier to realize their worst fears came.
Caught in the breath of a volunteer was a kiss and a whisper in the air.
(This is all far from over)
Do you blame me for thinking it was the final hour
Between the Capitol burning and the crumbling towers
Apocalypse now- the death of a world power
With the tears flowing down my face like rain showers
What I couldn’t know in my head, I felt in my heart
When those buildings came down, my family was torn apart-
What I refused to admit, I guess I knew from the start-
My pops had to be there, he was playing his part.
So while thousands fled, my father ran in those buildings-
He gave his life to get a daddy home to his children
To get everyone out of the spot that he’s still in
A hole in the earth, the site of a mass killing.
So no, it’s not over, this is just the beginning
The broken vessels of a family just starting to mend and
When I see my mom cry I know I can’t give in
The fact we go on living is the way that we’re winning.
So I go on a quest for the soul of my father
The essence of a man that was too early martyred
And I see his smile in the face of my child
And I feel his eyes when I see the sun rise
I can feel his compassion in the actions of factions
That were divided- now united, putting difference behind us.
I see his strength in your kindness. I see his wisdom in the blindness
Of those thinking violence could divide us.
I feel you dad, I know your walking beside us.
I know you’d get us through these trials
The world looks towards you for guidance
In a time we could easily let hatred blind us,
We look to your sacrifice to remind us.
A grateful nation is proud to have your heroism define us,
I feel your spirit surround me- I knew you would find us-
In your honor, I offer up this moment of silence.
Just this one moment of silence.
